I know there’s a faction of RefinedHype Nation nodding their head in agreement, but if not his new freestyle “ 3 Shots” is as good a place to start as any. It wasn’t a popular pick, but “ White Jesus” was one of my picks for 2010 mixtape of the year, his verse on “ Let’s Ride” still gets regular rotation and now that he’s on tour with his mentor Yelawolf (check him out at the 1:12 mark of the “Hard White” video) hopefully it’s only a matter of time until people really start to listen to the man. But on the real, seriously, the man’s got one of the best flows in the game right now. We all make assumptions based on appearance, myself included.
Rittz is slept on partially because there’s just too much music out there to stay up on everyone, and partially because he’s a white guy with huge red hair. Shane Eli reunites with the A-Town rhymesayer and once again the duo meshes impressively well the Los Angeles rapper/beatsmith (also a freestyle alum) crafts an instrumental backdrop befitting a down-South street banger, layering electric guitar licks and synth flourishes over a whip-ready rhythm as Rittz flaunts his stacks and exterminates the competition in characteristically hi-octane verses: “ Cockroaches, I got no choice, I gotta fumigate / Accumulatin’ dollars daily, how much money you done made?” Feeling this hard-hitting yet positive-minded selection? Then don’t miss White Jesus. Just three months and change later, he’s “ …feelin like Walking on Air.” Leak numero deux off his forthcoming White Jesus re-release, this freshly-released cut finds the Slumerican signee (and freestyle alum) coming together with a fellow house fave to fill fans in on just how dope his 2012 is shaping up to be. As recently as November of 2011, Rittz sounded like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.
